You Can't Sleep Because You're Listening for the Thud

It's 2am. You're lying awake, straining to hear sounds from Mum's room down the hall.

Is she trying to get to the bathroom? Has she fallen? You're exhausted, but you can't sleep because you're effectively on night watch.

Or maybe you're not even staying overnight – but you're terrified of the phone ringing at 3am saying she's fallen and been on the floor for hours.

Sound familiar?

You're not alone. Thousands of families lose sleep worrying about elderly relatives during the night. It's not sustainable. You'll burn out.

Overnight care gives you (and them) peace of mind. Someone qualified is there through the night – monitoring safety, providing reassurance, helping with toileting, preventing falls.

WHAT IS OVERNIGHT CARE:

Overnight care provides professional support during night-time hours (typically 10pm-8am). A trained carer stays in your home overnight, either sleeping in a spare room (sleep-in care) or staying awake throughout (waking night care).

TWO TYPES:

**Sleep-In Care (Most Common)**

  • Carer sleeps in a spare room in your home
  • Available if needed during the night
  • Responds to calls, provides toileting assistance, gives reassurance
  • Helps if someone falls or becomes confused
  • Monitoring only, not active care throughout night

Cost: £120-150/night

**Waking Night Care**

  • Carer stays awake throughout the night
  • Active monitoring and hourly checks
  • Repositioning to prevent pressure sores
  • Medication administration if scheduled
  • Continence care throughout night
  • Suitable for high dependency or complex medical needs

Cost: £180-220/night

  • Frequent night-time bathroom trips
  • Confusion when waking (gets lost on way to toilet)
  • Unsteady on feet in darkness
  • History of falls during the night

**Dementia with Night-Time Confusion**

  • Sundowners syndrome (worsening confusion at night)
  • Wandering or attempting to leave house
  • Distress when waking disoriented
  • Searching for deceased spouse or thinking it's daytime

Why overnight care helps: Immediate reassurance, gentle redirection, safety monitoring

**Family Carer Exhaustion**

  • You've been doing night care yourself for months and you're burnt out

OVERNIGHT CARE FAQ:

What if we don't have a spare bedroom?

Carer can sleep on a comfortable sofa bed in living room. Or we can arrange waking night care where they remain in a chair overnight.

Can overnight care be combined with daytime visits?
Absolutely – many clients have morning/evening visiting carers PLUS overnight sleep-in care for comprehensive 24-hour coverage.
Do you provide male overnight carers?
Yes, we have both male and female carers available for overnight care. Some clients (especially men) prefer male carers for personal care.
How do we know the carer won't just sleep through and miss someone calling?
Our sleep-in carers are trained to wake easily. We can also provide baby monitors or alarm systems if you want extra reassurance.
What if my loved one doesn't need help EVERY night?
We offer flexible overnight care – just weekend nights, alternate nights, or ad-hoc when family carers need a break.

OVERNIGHT CARE TESTIMONIALS:

"After Dad's stroke, we were terrified leaving him alone at night. The overnight carer has been brilliant – helps him to the toilet safely, gives his night medication, and we finally sleep knowing he's not going to fall. Worth every penny for the peace of mind."

Daughter (Galleywood), ★★★★★

"Mum has dementia and wanders at night thinking she needs to 'go to work.' The overnight carer gently redirects her back to bed, makes her a warm drink, and reassures her. No more 3am police calls saying Mum's been found in her nightie in the street."
